The project meets the need to expand the existing factory building with new offices, a new lobby and a new showroom. The planimetric composition of the project’s volume was focused on the boundary stated by regulations as a starting point for the main façade’s geometry (being a filter between the road and the factory), and aimed, at the same time, to create a connection with the existing shed by means of the new courtyard. The building, contiguous to the existing one, is intended as a completely independent structure and is therefore separated from the existing building by a seismic joint. The structure’s ground floor has a ‘L’ geometry with the short side interfacing the existing construction and providing a passageway between the latter and the new building.

The long side is accessible from outside and is intended for offices and waiting rooms. The first floor only runs along the long side, with a bigger extension compared to the one at the ground floor. Ground floor has a total surface of approximately 290 sqm, while the first floor has a 350 sqm surface. The structure is a mixed steel-reinforced concrete. one. The building’s geometrical irregularity also affects the structural one. The first floor is realized by means of an r.c variable thickness slab and is supported by r.c  pillars and walls.

A long span cantilever is realized on the side contiguous to the existing construction. Both the first floor’s vertical structures and the roof elements are in steel. Frames are placed orthogonally to the long side, with variable 4.9 m to 10 m length and 2 m a 2.8 m interaxis. The frames are placed on the first floor’s r.c. slab ‘foundation’ and are set on different rows compared to the ones of the ground floor’s vertical structures. All shallow foundations are foreseen.
